Clearspring Centre is a pillar of the local community. From hosting Santa and his elves to Steinbach’s Farmer’s Market, Clearspring Centre is a gathering place for local events and entertainment.
Clearspring Centre is located in Steinbach, one of the fastest growing cities in the province and the hub of economic activity in Southeastern Manitoba. Steinbach’s proximity to Winnipeg, other communities and the U.S. border, allows it to serve as a gathering place for people and a distribution centre for a variety of products.
Clearspring Centre is the only regional shopping centre in Southeastern Manitoba and the only enclosed shopping centre in Eastern Manitoba, servicing a retail trade area of over 61,000 people. Comprised of over 221,000 square feet, with a diverse mix of store tenants, Clearspring Centre offers a range of shopping and dining options in a neighbourly atmosphere.
Clearspring Village Shopping Centre opened its doors on May 7, 1980, as the largest shopping centre in Manitoba outside of Winnipeg. Co-developed by two well-known local businessmen, Ernie Penner of A.K. Penner and Sons and Jim Penner of Penner Foods, their vision was to bridge the gap between the shopping experience in Winnipeg and the shopping experience in Southeastern Manitoba. Clearspring Village would provide friendly, person-to-person service in the rural tradition and create a space in the community for social activity. The tenets upon which Clearspring Village was founded remain our focus today.
What's in a Name
The name “Clearspring” is rooted in the early settlement of the region, beginning with Scottish and Ontario farmers in 1870, followed by the first Mennonites in 1874. The name “Clearspring” originates from the many natural springs which the early settlers found in the area. “Clearspring” was used as early as 1880 as the name of the local school district, located near the current day site of Clearspring Centre.
From the early settlement of Clearspring grew the thriving community of Steinbach. At Clearspring Centre, we are proud to honour the rich history and traditions of our community.
